Q&A: Ali Tillett
Our latest collaboration is with super-agency, Warm, home to talents including The Revenge, Horse Meat Disco and Innervisions. We put the Millionhands Q&A to Warm’s founder, Ali Tillett.
What are you working on currently? At the moment we are working on world tours on the agency front for Mark E, The Revenge, Tiger & Woods, Horse Meat Disco and 6th Borough Project as they all have LP’s and Mix CD’s out over next few months. Then on the events front we are working on our next bunch of Plastic People dates as we have 6th Borough Project & The Revenge LP launch, and Pearson Sound & Appleblim, as well as another big event end of May with Electric Minds where we have Efdemin, MCDE, John Roberts, Ben UFO, Optimo and Tim Sweeney all playing. So lots to keep us busy! What new projects are in store for the rest of 2011? Main thing will be the new label I have set up with Tim Goldsworthy called Nightjar Audio. First two artists we signed – Rhosyn and Horse Meat Disco will have 12″s out very soon so we are just working on those currently as Tim is producing all the releases on the label. So lots and lots to do with the label and looking for new artists to sign. What are your musical inspirations? Wow – everything from Fleetwood Mac through to Burial and Paul Weller and the Verve and Nick Drake and John Martyn and Larry Heard and Global Communication and Carl Craig… and lots lots more! Name 3 of your favourite records old or new: Mark E – Call Me, Radiohead – Separator and Rhosyn – Glass (videos below). What’s on your radar right now? Too much music on the radar right now! I can’t keep up with it all it’s crazy! I’m not a film person and as for passtimes I do like a good old bike run but not in London and by the sea, and restaurant wise definitely Ganapati in Peckham. Describe your dress sense / style: sensible, comfy and casual. Most visited blogs and websites? Always check Fact and Resident Advisor as well as websites like Hanon Shop. Where do you live & what are your favourite local haunts? Peckham – we always go Bar Story, The Montepellier and Victoria Inn for beers and for food a must is Ganapati which is an amazing Indian restaurant, and for coffee and cake a great little place called Petitou. Eggs – how do you them? Scrambled with smoked salmon and avocado. What would you do if you had a million hands? Increase my productivity with one pair per Macbook but also look a bit wierd at the sametime.
